On this episode of The Check-In, we’re joined by Scott Zimmerman, co-founder of Nexis Wellness in Cleveland, Ohio. Scott talks to us about why he started this coworking space for health and wellness professionals, how they’re working to remain HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) compliant, and how The Receptionist fits into that compliance.
The Need for a New Type of Coworking Space
When Scott was in London a decade ago, he saw a business model that intrigued him- health and wellness professionals working together in a coworking space. Since coworking spaces have been picking up momentum here in the states, four years ago he started Nexis Wellness in Ohio. However, he knew that mental and health professional practitioners have very specific needs when it came to protecting the privacy of their clients and their client’s information.
The Growth of Nexis Wellness
With Nexis Wellness up and running, Scott suffered an injury and realized the importance of overall behavioral health in his recovery. He was motivated to add a variety of practitioners to the roster of those who use Nexis Wellness; they now have practitioners including those in functional medicine, acupuncture, massage, and more.
Scott shares the importance of remaining HIPAA compliant, from the way clients check in (being aware of how and when you’re storing personal information), to how they built the buildings to ensure that rooms are sound-proof and protect the conversations that clients are having with their practitioners. He also shares about other aspects of HIPAA compliance that you may not consider, and that all businesses who have sensitive information can benefit from being aware of, like your printers storing personal information. We’re glad that The Receptionist can help Scott and the team at Nexis Wellness maintain HIPAA compliance in their coworking space.
